Oh!Ware gives mancala a dangerous marble collection
Chris Perry’s new strategy roguelike sends elemental marbles through a mancala board, with floods and poisonous vegetation complicating the arithmetic.
Oh!Ware has arrived on Steam, and its mancala board has a poison problem. Chris Perry’s strategy roguelike launched September 24, sending marbles through pits to trigger captures, elemental effects and chained attacks.
Burn, Bless, Drain and Poison are among the effects attached to a collection of more than 100 marbles. More than 100 charms add powers including doubled captures and divine protection. That is a lot of responsibility to entrust to something that can roll under a sofa.
The board has a weather problem
The route runs through the Jungle, Plains and Mountains, with guardians and hazards in each biome. Floods and poisonous vegetation can change the board mid-run. A carefully arranged marble collection now has to survive the landscaping.
Each map has eight Ascension levels. Perry puts a typical run at 30–40 minutes, and a free demo is available on Steam. The full game supports Windows and Linux.
