Factorio’s last major update packs a better rocket

Version 2.1 reaches stable, with mixed cargo launches, platform transfers and a new calculation for ship drag.

Factorio’s rockets can finally carry a mixed load. Version 2.1 reached stable on October 23, letting Space Age factories send several kinds of item in a single launch. A small platform construction job no longer demands a full stack of every ingredient. Interplanetary shipping has discovered the assorted box.

Orbiting platforms can now supply one another, and leaving a request’s import location blank lets it draw from anywhere. Ship drag is calculated from mass, opening up fast designs beyond the long, skinny hull. Down on the ground, a new unloading bay lets inserters pull cargo from landing pads straight into trains, chests or belts.

The wiring bench gets busier, too. Labs can select research through circuit conditions, and land mines can act as enemy detectors. Space Age also gains the option to run without Quality; its Recycler is now a separate mod.

Wube has planned 2.1 as Factorio’s final major update, with future work focused on bug fixes, compatibility and modding features. The studio marked the stable release with a new cut of its classic trailer.
