Caves of Qud’s next caravan carries playable trees

Diaspora arrives December 9 with animal and plant characters, longer-reaching spears and saltbacks you can ride into a moving bazaar.

A tree, a chameleon and a frog are all valid starting points for Caves of Qud’s first expansion. Announced October 15, Diaspora enters Steam Early Access on December 9 for $14.99.

Animal and plant genotypes get their own character progression and mutations. The launch roster has nine animal stocks and three plant stocks; dogs, cats and vines are among the options. An animal’s ordinary tail can become prehensile. Spears bring a new weapon skill tree and attacks from two tiles away.

The dromads’ trade caravans are getting an overhaul, including mountable saltbacks with bazaars on their shells. The local shopping district has somewhere to be. Reworked road and river networks wind through Qud, with roads that can lead to an interesting location.

Freehold Games and Kitfox plan to expand Diaspora through 2027. A migration questline involving Je’ome the Bounty, foxen and snailfolk factions, underground villages and roaming mega-caravans are on that schedule. The expansion requires the base game.
